Books Actually Singapore

As I was searching for some places to visit during my stay at Singapore, I come across with Books Actually. Truth is, when I was looking around various bookstores around my workplace, I’ve noticed that they don’t really sell a lot of good books to read. And then when I found out about Books Actually, I wanted to go there right away.

Books Actually(est. 2005) is an independent bookstore specializing in Fiction and Literature. This includes Poetry, Essays, Literary Journals, alongside obscure, critical works and antique/rare editions. We also stock titles from various subjects we like: History, Biography, Current Affairs, Human Sciences, Math/Natural Sciences, Travel Narrative, Food Narrative, Aesthetics, Music and Film. BooksActually also houses the largest collection of Singapore literary publications including some out-of-print titles.

In our bookstore, you can often find literary trinkets in the form of stationery and other lovely tchotchkes. We publish and distribute books under our imprint Math Paper Press. We also hand-stitch notebooks and produce stationery under Birds & Co.

Books Actually is located at Yong Siak Street, along Tiong Bahru District. You will need to ride a train to get there just like what we did. Since we’re coming from the office, we just ride the train going to Tiong Bahru station. When we got there, I just rely on google maps to find our destination. It’s like a 15 minute walk from the station.

One of the books that caught my attention because of its title “Just because a body has been pierced, tanned or landscaped with tough flesh does make it an armour.”

I like the place so much, and so is the smell of each books.

What I like most about this out of the blue trip to Tiong Bahru is the district itself, as it’s not as crowded as other places like Orchard for example.

And I got to admire the calmness of the night, walking without bumping other people.
